1 Samuel 28:7
7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “Behold, there is a medium at En-dor.”

Reflection: This Goes Without Saying…
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro

Saul, scared for his life and assuming the end is near, seeks out a medium to see if the next battle will be successful or not. God had left Saul years before, so asking for God’s favor was no longer an option. This behavior of consulting a medium was expressly forbidden by God in the Law (Leviticus 19), along with all forms of witchcraft. So, Saul approaches the medium at Endor (interestingly, this is the name of the planet in Star Wars where the Ewoks live!) for insight. The medium calls forth Samuel from the dead, and the news was not good: “Saul, you are about to die!”
I was old enough to be paying attention when it was reported that President Reagan (a “professing” Christian) and his wife, Nancy, would regularly seek the guidance of a spiritist (Joan Quigley). They wanted guidance as to when and how to travel, such that their plans “aligned with the stars” (or some such nonsense). In my circle of Christianity this was roundly criticized by Christians. He was, in fact, participating in sorcery and witchcraft. And it goes without saying that we as Christians should stay far away from anything like this... palm reading, tarot cards, Ouija boards, and anything that resembles divination. God has rendered an opinion here: this is wickedness, in the Law, deserving of death. Occasionally I hear of a Christian who went to visit a palm reader, for example, and I scratch my head! Please know that this is not for the child of God. Never! It is abominable and we should stay far away from these activities.

Prayer
Lord, we rely on you and trust in you alone for our well-being. We have confidence in the fact that you love us and are in control… having ordered the steps of the righteous.
