2 Samuel 22:47

47 “The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock,

and exalted be my God, the rock of my
salvation,

Reflection: The Lord Liveth…

Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro

There
was a great worship song (a ditty) in the early 90’s, recorded by Hosannah
Music. It was “I Will Call Upon the Lord,” also known as “The Lord Liveth.” The
opening verse says, “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised. So
shall I be saved from my enemies. I will call upon the Lord.” Then… the chorus
(silly hand motions and all! If you know, you know): “The Lord liveth and
blessed be the Rock and let the God of my salvation be exalted!” Classic 90’s
worship!

David
wrote these words and recited them in song towards the end of his long life.
The Philistines had been defeated, Saul had been dethroned, and David had been
established as King. What might a godly person, as he reflects on the arc of
his/her life, say? David extols the virtues of God. While the end of his days
steadily approached, David thought about a living God who had defended him in
life, rescued him as a strong fortress and delighted in him. What a wonderful
thing to be able to ponder toward the end of our days! The Lord Lives! The Rock
and foundation of my life be blessed! May he be exalted… the Rock of my
salvation! David, indeed, was a man after God’s own heart!

Prayer

Heavenly
Father, you are blessed and exalted above all the earth. You are the one and
only true God, our Rock and our Salvation.
