Psalm
77:11-12
11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
12 I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds.
Reflection:
Wonders and Mighty Deeds
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro
Several
years ago, we discovered that my daughter needed a dental crown. It would be
expensive, but it needed to be done. We were struggling financially at the time.
I am not embarrassed to say, but we had certain years in ministry that we had
quick Saturday morning yard sales just to be able to get gas. Those years were
mostly in ministry in California. So, we knew how to make our way through
difficult times. We saved and made an appointment for the crown. Kelly took her,
checked her in… and decided, “I am going to pray that the dentist looks at her
teeth again and decides that Addison doesn’t need a crown after all.” A long
shot, maybe… but she prayed, nevertheless. She had seen God answer prays like
this before and, faithful to her sense that she should pray, Kelly prayed. A
few minutes later, the receptionist told her that they re-looked and thought
Addison would not need the crown after all.
Our
early ministry life (one of dependence on God financially) taught us a lot
about prayer and faith. And we saw, through the years, a lot of answered
prayers like this. Sure, they were not parting of seas or fire from heaven, but
they certainly were “wonders” and “mighty deeds.” Often, our family, like the
Psalmist, recount to one another the mighty deeds of God… how he healed me, healed
Chloe, placed the driver’s license we desperately needed to find in an obvious
place we had looked many times (that is another story for another time). So
many sincere prayers answered that are part of our “mighty deeds” stories. And
it causes me to think that prayer is a major part of a life with wonders from
God. So, what are your stories of wonders and deeds from God? Do you invite
your children and friends into these stories as testaments to God?
Prayer
Lord,
may we pray often and see your hand answer the prayers of the children you
love. And may we recount those stories of your faithfulness to those around us.
