Perhaps nothing has caused more debate and more heartache in our country in the last couple of years than the question of race.  Racism reveals the divisions in our communities and the brokenness in our hearts.  We reach for solutions, but politics and social media often make things worse instead of better.  Is there another way?  Does the Bible have any good news for us?  Can God fix this?

The gospel of Jesus Christ is counter-cultural.  It goes against the grain of the world.  Nowhere is this more evident than in what the Bible teaches us about money.  The world says that to be rich means having lots of material possessions.  But the Bible says rich is an attitude.  The world says that wealth is a status symbol, but the Bible says that money is a tool to accomplish God’s purposes.  The world says that money is our own private possession; the Bible says that God expects generosity from his people.

Most of the great movements in human history are only understood after the fact, as we look backwards.  It’s hard to imagine someone waking up on an ordinary day in the 1520’s in Europe and saying, “Hey!  It’s the Protestant Reformation!”  But what if we could notice the work of God in real time?  When we view the world through the lens of the Bible, we can see evidence of the Spirit.

For the first three Sundays of August, we are celebrating what it means for Timberlake to be a multi-generational church.  In the book of Genesis, God said to Abraham, “I will establish my everlasting covenant between me and you… for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants.”  Our God is a God who keeps his covenant, his promises for all who have come before, and all who will come after us.  We are blessed to serve the God for all generations!

8th century author Voltaire said, “In the beginning God created man in His own image, and man has been trying to repay the favor ever since.” One of the problems with making God in our own image (there are many) is that any such god is going to be far too small. And a small god just won’t do – no help when we’re in trouble, and certainly not worthy of our worship.

How about you? Have you limited your faith to a cosmic vending machine god who dispenses nice things or to some grand old man who lays around on clouds stroking his beard? If so, your god is too small! Join us as we discover the true God, the one God, who is indescribably huge.

We’ve all heard the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”  But that’s not true, is it?  Words are incredibly powerful.  They can bless or curse, build up or tear down.  James 3:5 reminds us, “The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.  A great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”  Join us as we study the book of James and consider the power of our words.

How many of us have ever let someone else talk us out of something we really felt called to do?  Or worse, we talked ourselves out of it!  Like you we avoided saying what we really thought, because we didn’t want to make conflict, or we were afraid of what others would think of us.  What’s going on?  We’ve learned to live a divided life.  Sin plus social conditioning has resulted in our being separated from God, and even from our selves! What can we do about it? Let’s talk about living an undivided life.

What happens after we die?  Is heaven real?  How can we know for sure?   Much has been made about heaven in books and movies, but what does the Bible say?  This three-part series will explore the good news that our present struggles are nothing compared to the glory of heaven, that heaven is a present reality, and that there is a great feast waiting for all of God’s people.
