Romans 5:20

 20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more

Reflection: “Grace Greater Than Our Sin”
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro

Continuing to reflect a little on hymns, I think of one of my favorites… a 150-year-old hymn that has withstood the test of time: “Grace Greater Thank Our Sin.” Yes, sin and grace are common themes in our hymnody (a fancy word for the body of hymns written in the history of the church). We ought to often be reminded of God’s grace to us… and how might we be reminded of this without, at the same time, being reminded of the sinful condition from which Christ saved us?! Here is a lyric to ponder:
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.
Refrain:
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
Lovely and poetic! The lyric, “Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!” What a beautiful thought today: that no matter how wretched we ever were, or are, God’s grace exceeds our own sin. This is true, of course, because on Calvary’s mount was “outpoured” and “spilled” the “blood of the Lamb.” His blood, being greater and more powerful than our sin, covers our guilt. This is, indeed, “marvelous grace!”

Prayer
Lord, your grace, matchless and eternal, covers our transgressions and has made us white as snow. To God be the glory!
