The question of vulnerability is a spiritual one. To what degree are we open to the condition of our souls… open to the Lord? Open to others?
James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Reflections
We do not much like to confess our sins, especially not to others. Can’t I just confess them to God and be done? Indeed we must confess our sins to God in Christ if we are to be forgiven. But we are capable of infinite self-deception. So we must also confess our sins to one another. We need the encouragement and accountability that brothers and sisters can provide.
Imagine if all of our Life Groups and accountability partnerships were non-judgmental environments where we are free to be honest and open with one another. Imagine if we were not preyed on but instead prayed for! The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective!
Prayer
Forgiving God, give me an awareness of my sin, the courage to speak it out to you, and the vulnerability to speak it out to others, knowing that their prayers for me can heal my sin-sick soul by the power of your Spirit. Through Christ our Lord I pray. Amen.
