Psalm 13:1
How long, O, Lord, will you forget me? How long will you hide your face from me?
Reflection: Loneliness
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro
The older I get I become more sensitive to those around me who are lonely during the holidays. I think of how sad it will be when the kids leave the house… and I can’t even bear the thought of my not being with Kelly. When I put myself in this headspace, it is a thought too sad and joyless to bear. The holidays would only serve to compound and highlight the loneliness, I think. To allude to the last Rooted, I think in part, people are not designed for this kind of loneliness. We are built for community.
The Psalmist occasionally expresses this deep sadness when it seems like he is all alone. Where are you God? Why have you left me? By the end of the chapter the Psalmist has come to terms with the fact that God, if He is anything, is faithful. He has not left us. He is always present. Today, if you are dealing with the loneliness of life or feel as though the Lord has left you… know this: God is near! He is with you and absolutely will never leave you. Lean into Him!
Prayer
Lord, for your people who are lonely, be light and life to them today, and surround them today with the presence of your Spirit.
