Take note of what the Bible says about itself.
II Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness,
17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
Reflections
The letter to Timothy reminds us that Scripture is God-breathed. This means it was not only written down by human beings but it was inspired, literally in-Spirited, by God. Remember that this is something quite similar to God’s creation of man and woman. God took the dust of the earth and breathed into them the breath of life.
The Bible is a living word, ancient, yet true and live.
What is the difference if not merely part, but ALL Scripture is good for teaching and training?
How would this understanding change the way you read and use the Bible?
What is the goal, the purpose of this God-breathed Scripture for God’s people (see v. 17)?
Prayer
Almighty God, who creates the world with your word, speak again into our hearts, so that we may know your word is true, that we may be equipped for every good work to which you have called us. We pray in the name of the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ. Amen.
