Psalm 139:1-4
You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.

Reflection: Sermon Thoughts: Part 2, Omniscience
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro

He knows when you are sleeping… he knows when you’re awake. Of course, this is said of Santa Clause, but it can only truly be said of the God of the universe. He knows all things. He knows every thought that I have ever had. Before I type the words I am typing, God knows precisely what I am going to type. And say. And think. He knows everything. He is omniscient.

Imagine that. God knows me so intimately… all my faults and shortcomings. And yet he still wants to have relationship with a “wretch” like me. Usually, the idea that God knows everything invites us to live in shame and terror of God. And yet, this attribute of God inspires the Psalmist to awe and wonder. The Psalmist is stunned by God and the tenderness of a God who wants to be with us, despite our sin. Is this not a God worth spending time with? Is a God that so graciously looks past our worst habits, and most sinful thoughts… is that God worth putting our technology to the side such that we can invest time getting to know him?

Prayer
Lord, may we get to know you more. May we invest time into our relationship with you such that we, like the Psalmist, wonder at your love and grace for us.
