Romans 12:5
So, in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
Reflection: Community
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro
When I was in Texas visiting my family a few months ago, I spent some time with Sammy. Sammy was the blue parakeet my parents had, along with a yellow parakeet named Herbie. Vibrant as ever, Sammy would fly up to you and perch on your finger (they cage their birds only at night, but the house limits their freedom to one large living room). Super beautiful bird. A couple months ago I was told that Sammy (their favorite of the two birds) had a tumor and was put to sleep. Dad (who especially was devastated as Sammy was his buddy and constant companion) determined he would not replace Sammy. However, as it turned out, Herbie was showing signs (understandably) of sadness and loneliness. Last I heard, they replaced Sammy with two other birds… and now there are three.
Like birds (who, obviously need other birds with whom they can “flock together”) we need companionship and community. We were designed for relationships and friendships. God, being all-wise, gave the believers a built-in group… the Body of Christ, the Church. The more the merrier. We are made to be with the church. We are designed for these godly relationships. We must plug in and get connected. The Spirit of God has bound us together!
Prayer
Lord, help us to develop deep connections with the brothers and sisters in Christ here at our church. May these relationships be a conduit to a greater relationship with you.
