2 Corinthians 5:1-5
“For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.”
Reflection
When this life is over, our journey with God has just begun. As it is with all relationships, we must trust that what God has shown us in His word is worth believing. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we can know that God is worth trusting our whole life to. The words of the Apostle Paul compare our death to the ease of collapsing a tent. This life is frail and short, especially when we contrast this life with the future life to come. Unlike this frail and temporary dwelling, our permanent dwelling will be made eternal. This knowledge of a forever home should bring great comfort to us as believers. The Spirit of God has been given to us as a guarantee of what is to come. Any good thing we have experienced in this life will be nothing in comparison to the perfection that is in store for us in Heaven. We should be a people motivated by the promise of Heaven and share our future hope with others—every chance we get. Who can you share this with today?
Prayer
God, help us to share your goodness with everyone we meet. Come, Holy Spirit! Let the hope of Heaven motivate our lives today to share this hope with all we can. Amen.
