Matthew 4:17
The Kingdom of the Heavens is at hand…..
Reflection: God’s Kingdom and The United States
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro
A few weeks ago, I preached a message about the Kingdom of God and how we should be more passionate about that Kingdom than the one of this world. Like you, I was shaken by the events of the assassination attempt of our former President, Donald Trump. I had thought about it all day Saturday after the shooting. I thought, “how could someone come to think that those actions were in his best interest?” Indeed, what kind of confidence must one have to believe that a political party, a politician, or a system of government (or their removal) is the answer to the world’s problems?
The folly here for me is a lack of understanding of how the church should operate. The church is tasked with the task of changing lives from the inside out. The government has the task of governing some of this world’s affairs, but it really can’t change hearts. It can change laws, impose statutes, and enforce rules. But it has no power to make lasting change. The church and God’s Kingdom has the Gospel message tasked with the powerful goal of bringing sight to the blind and a way for the lost. This is the ultimate change maker in the United States. We ought to place our affections in the Kingdom of God and consider that Kingdom our real citizenship.
Prayer
Lord, may we be good stewards of expanding your kingdom and spreading the Gospel of life and peace.
