John 14:26
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Reflection: The Holy Spirit
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro

In January I will be teaching (on Sunday mornings) a class on the Holy Spirit. I just finished a class on “Who is Jesus?” and I had a great time teaching it. We dealt with 1) Jesus in the Old Testament, 2) evidence that Jesus is God in Matthew, Mark, Luke and 3) John; and 4) what Jesus accomplished on the cross and at the tomb! If you missed it… you missed it!

The Holy Spirit class, tentatively, will have these lessons for 6 weeks:
•    Who is the Holy Spirit/ Pneumatology
•    Being Filled/Baptized with the Spirit
•    Gifts of the Spirit (With Gift Inventory)
•    Charismatic Gifts
•    Spiritual Warfare
•    Fruit of the Spirit
Today I was fine-tuning some of this, as I prepare in advance for several classes in the calendar year 2026! What does the Holy Spirit do? I will address this in week one’s lesson, “Who is the Holy Spirit?” Well… what the Holy Spirit does, as a first principal, is point people to Jesus. Christ says that the Spirit, “will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” His goal is to point people to Christ, and all that he said. It was not intentional, but it is good, then, that I taught about Jesus first. Jesus is central! He is the point. The Spirit has a ministry that he accomplishes, and it is to point people to Jesus. I say all this as a point of caution, by the way. I think, often in the church, we get our focus so much on the Spirit that we lose focus on Christ. I think this is an error. We don’t ignore, of course, the Spirit, but we recognize that Jesus is ultimately the focus of our faith. I trust that this class will be taught in a way that ultimately glorifies Christ!

Prayer
Father in Heaven, we are thankful for the Spirit of God in our lives… for His conviction and grace. And ultimately, we are grateful to the ministry of the Spirit to keep us grounded in Christ!
