Our greatest purpose in life is what has been called Jesus’ Great Commandment: love God, and love your neighbor. Jesus was clear that his role was as a servant; we would do well to emulate him.
Matthew 20:26-28
26 …Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—
28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Reflections
What does it mean to you to serve God and others as your life’s purpose? For whom are you a servant? Does serving come easily to you, or is it a challenge? How might God call you to give your life away?
Prayer
Almighty God, who challenges our sense of self-importance with your radical gospel of surrender and service, make us servants above all else, knowing that the greatest joy we could have is submitting our lives to the glory of Jesus Christ the King. Amen.
