Here is the apostle Paul’s encouragement to the Colossian Church, and by extension, to us, about the message of Jesus Christ which we read in the Bible.  Take these words to heart:

Colossians 3:15-17

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Reflections

What does it mean to let the peace of Christ rule in your heart? In what sense is the Church a body? How do you practice letting the message of Christ dwell in your midst? Why is it important for us to do all good things in the name of Jesus, with gratitude toward God the Father?

Prayer

God of peace, still our busy lives, so that we may trade our chaos for your contentment, and our anxiety for your comfort.  When trouble comes our way, call on us to go to your Scriptures not as a last resort but as a first resource, that the message of Christ would dwell in our hearts with gratitude.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
