Matthew 5:16
16 … let your light so shine!

Reflection: The Greatest Story Ever Told
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro

Bear Grylls (celebrity outdoor survival expert) was recently at Liberty University for a convocation. I used to watch Bear Grylls a decade or so ago, watching him survive the frozen tundra for a week, with a handy camera crew following his every step. He is British and has a wonderful accent. A few years ago, it came to be that I discovered he was a Christian, and I have followed him more intently since.
I also follow a podcaster on YouTube, an atheist, Alex O’Conner. I really like Alex… super smart. He often interviews Christians (and debates them, occasionally, too) on his channel. Last week he interviewed Bear Grylls. Grylls recently wrote a book, The Greatest Story Ever Told… a first person retelling of the Gospels from the vantage point of several different people (Mary, Mary Magdalene, Peter, Thomas, etc.). I have the book here on my desk (I recommend the book to you). Anyway, I was so grateful for the interview as it struck me how much the grace of God exudes from Bear Grylls. He is a deeply affectionate follower of Jesus. I could tell that Grylls loves Alex, sharing his faith with him with compassion and love. I pray for Alex occasionally that the Spirit of God will open his eyes to the glory of Christ and that Alex will come to faith. If this is to happen it will be owing to not an evidence or proof of the existence of God! No! He will come to faith because he sees Christ and Christ’s love in others. Bear Grylls did that… he displayed the love of Jesus in a very tender way.
Ultimately this is true: it I the goodness of God that leads people to repentance. Arguments and proofs about the existence of God play a role, but we must show Christ to others with our sincere love and faith.

Prayer
Lord, help us to show sincere faith to others with our actions. May we compel others to place their faith in you!
