The question of vulnerability is a question of power and weakness… except that in God’s economy, it may well be the opposite of what we expected.

2 Corinthians 13:4

4 For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him in our dealing with you.

2 Corinthians 12:9

9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Reflections

On the cross, to the world, Jesus looks weak.  “He saved others, he cannot save himself.”  And yet, the cross is the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.

Likewise, when we are vulnerable and open, we may appear weak to others.  We may even feel weak.  And yet in that place we are strongest of all, for God’s power is made perfect in our weakness.

When have you experienced God’s power working in your weakness?  In what areas of your life do you need to be willing to be more vulnerable, in order to experience the power of Jesus’ cross and resurrection?

Prayer

O God, even as you said to your servant Paul, say it to me, that your grace is sufficient.  Forgive me in fear when I try to manage and control my own life.  Give me the courage to be vulnerable, knowing that your power is perfected in my weakness.  I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
