Nehemiah 2:17

Reflection: Roots to Fruit Friday: Build the Wall

Every once in a while, a leader says with boldness, “We have a need, and we all need to jump in and meet this need!” That is what Christian, godly leaders do. They push/lead God’s people into the direction they should go. He casts a vision for what the church needs to do, and the church prays… and is led. This is how the people of God are led. They do not lead themselves. Examples of great and godly leadership are found throughout the pages of Holy Scripture.
Nehemiah was such a leader. Notice how The Message Translation translates Nehemiah’s words to the people of God: “Face it. We are in a bad way here. Jerusalem is a wreck.” Nehemiah, with great boldness, calls out with clarity the problem. Jerusalem is in a bad place. Gates are destroyed, and walls burned down. We are in a crisis! Timberlake Church is blessed in that we are not in a “bad place.” Things are not a wreck. The ministry has not been neglected. But I am grateful for a strong leader in our pastor who is willing to say, “We need to invest to make things better.” We need space for this and for that! Of course, the investment will be costly, but I am thankful that our leadership is not leading out of fear but out of faith. That is what godly leaders do. We should all be grateful!
Prayer
Lord, bless those now whom you have called to our care. May they lead us with a clean conscience and according to their faith. And may we be ever prayerful that you bless them for the responsibility you have placed on them.
