Pentecost

May 20, 2021

Dear Timberlake Sisters and Brothers,

This is a big weekend for the Church of Jesus Christ.  Sunday is Pentecost, the day we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church.  The story in Acts 2 goes like this…

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. -Acts 2:1-4

The Spirit of God comes in power, and we pray for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit on us this weekend.  The Church’s color for Pentecost is red, like the fire of faith.  I invite you to wear red in honor of the occasion.

On Sunday, we will wrap up our series, The Undivided Life, and we will celebrate Confirmation – confirming our young people with prayer and laying on of hands.  Many of our youth have spent nine months in study and preparation to claim the Christian faith for themselves.  Come help us honor them and encourage their commitment to Jesus Christ and to Timberlake.

After Sunday morning worship, we will have a service of baptism at Wildwood Pool at 12:00noon.  Please join us to cheer on those being baptized, and to remember your own baptism and be thankful for all that God has done for us.

To God be the glory.

Pastor Brad
