Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.  I hope your week is full of an awareness of the many blessings God has given you.

Today I’d like to offer you one of our Holy Communion prayers from our Wesleyan tradition.  It’s called The Great Thanksgiving – no doubt an appropriate prayer for this season.

Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, by your appointment the seasons come and go.  You bring forth bread from the earth and create the fruit of the vine.  You formed us in your image and made us stewards of your world.  Earth has yielded its treasure, and from your hand we have received blessing on blessing.

Though Jesus was rich, yet for our sake he became poor.  When hungry and tempted, he refused to make bread for himself that he might be the bread of life for others.  When the multitudes were hungry, he fed them.  He broke bread with the outcast but drove the greedy from the temple.

So as we break bread this week, may we do so with an awareness of your great love for us.  Be present to us in the bread and the wine.  Forgive our sin once more.  And call on us to share our abundant blessings with others.

In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
