Commitment '23 - Robin Grier

Our lives are so busy.

We have so many opportunities to take on another task at work, watch the next television show, watch or play the next game, follow the next issue on social media, go to the next event, get the next thing, etc., etc.

As I pause this Saturday morning, I’m reminded of how blessed I am. God has provided abundantly for me all of my life. As I look beyond the clutter of my day-to-day life, I’m reminded that so many are not so fortunate. Many don’t know how they will access even the most fundamental needs, including food, water, shelter, and spiritual nourishment.

I remember an essay by Billy Graham that highlighted two bodies of water as a metaphor for God’s plan. The first is a reservoir that collects that precious liquid. The second is a river that passes that same water to others. Dr. Graham pointed out that God wants us to be like a river with His resources, not a reservoir. We are to share our time, talents, witness, and money with others.

Matthew 6:19 – 20 instructs us, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

At Timberlake, our mission is to Reach, Feed, and Release. I believe that God shares this approach with His resources. He Reaches us to be His hands and feet. He Feeds us constantly like the rain and the streams feed a river. And he expects us to Release his resources like a free-flowing river to fulfill his will.
